Keenya T. Justice

Keenya T. Justice

Charlotte, North Carolina
The firm's principal, Keenya T. Justice, marries her keen understanding of the law with her educational and business background in finance and economics leaving no stone unturned to maximize the compensation the firm's clients receive.

Ms. Justice continually applies the law and the knowledge she gained from her successfully completion of both the basic and advanced condemnation appraising courses offered by the North Carolina Chapter of the Appraisal Institute to advise her clients. In addition, the firm has developed several key relationships with right-of-way agents (both current and former), appraisers and engineers to further aid clients whose cases would benefit from such collaborations.

Since the recent financial crisis, lenders have become more aggressive in their efforts to share in condemnation awards. As a former banker, duly educated in finance, Keenya T. Justice uses the law and her finance acumen to fight in order to keep more of the compensation awarded in the hands of her clients as opposed to those of their lenders. Keep in mind that any part of the condemnation award that the lender receives is usually applied to reduce the outstanding principal loan balance.

Keenya Toney Justice is the principal of The Justice Firm, LLC, which is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Founded on the belief that private property ownership is the bedrock of our democracy, The Justice Firm provides legal expertise and advocacy for victims of eminent domain. Ms. Justice seeks to ensure that the owners have pursued all available means in order that they receive "just compensation" when their private property is taken by the government for public use.

Prior to establishing The Justice Firm, Ms. Justice spent five years in the banking industry, working first as an investment banker within the Leveraged Finance Sector and then by servicing Institutional Accounts by distributing a broad spectrum of fixed income products to both domestic and international clients.

During her tenure at the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise she served both in Chapel Hill, North Carolina and in Bangkok, Thailand. In Thailand, she was a valued member of the team of international attorneys responsible for structuring the institutional framework for the first foreign aid program of its type in U.S. history. Upon her return to Chapel Hill, she was appointed Executive Director of the Urban Enterprise Corps, responsible for leading an organization designed to a help small businesses succeed by providing them with talented MBA graduates from around the country.

Ms. Justice's interest in the world around her - politically, economically, and culturally - has been a guiding force throughout her life. A native New Yorker, she has traveled, studied or worked extensively throughout Europe, Africa, Asia, and South and Central America. She has participated in numerous courses and seminars which provided her with a strong foundation in international business and legal affairs and cross-cultural communication.

Ms. Justice successfully completed the only two courses offered by the North Carolina Chapter of the Appraisal Institute on Condemnation Appraising. She earned a Bachelor of Business Administration, with a minor in Economics, at The University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She became the first African-American woman to simultaneously earn a Juris Doctor and a Master of Business Administration from the oldest state university in the country, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a Bar member in the states of North Carolina, Georgia and in Washington D.C. Ms. Justice is a divorced mother of two wonderful children.
